vintage floral skirt

the look: top, vintage skirt, elastic belt, thrifted beg, thrifted vintage shoes

When I first set my eyes on this colourful skirt, I said to myself that I must have it. And I did. How can anyone resist such skirt? Most of the time, I would alter the length of vintage skirts. However, for this piece I have made an exemption. A great outfit for summer holiday, don't you think?

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Here, I would like to share some lovely costumes from the movie; My Week with Marilyn. The other thing that I like besides the lovely dresses, is the brooches. Almost every outfit is accessorized with a brooch. I can not keep my eyes off the brooches whilst watching this movie. Ooh, I love pearl necklaces too.

It is Friday and Happy Friday everyone! Have a great weekend too.

a bit of metallic

Today's polyvore outfit ensembles were inspired by the song, Titanium by David Guetta featuring Sia, although all the outfits featured metallic gold instead of titanium. How ironic. I think, metallic gold is more interesting than metallic silver.

What is your preference?

diy pillbox hat & vintage dress

27 june 3
the look: vintage dress, lace belt, vintage pumps, diy bow socks, diy pillbox hat, thrifted brooch

This is one of my favourite and great vintage finds. I love its lovely lace-like material, so demure and feminine. It channels 60's vibe thus I thought to accessorize with my DIY pillbox hat. Click here for DIY pillbox hat tutorial.

I am still looking for a tote bag although I have quite a number of bags. Maybe there in no harm in getting one more bag into my collection. At the moment, I just drool over these lovely tote bags from Marc by Marc Jacobs.

vintage blue dress and vintage burgundy heels

23 june 1

23 june 2
the look: vintage dress, vintage heels

Today's outfit is very, very minimal. Just the dress and the heels. This is the kind of dress I need for a warm day. It has not rain for a while now. On another note, I feel like I am a pin up girl wannabe (without make up and hairdo though). The dress has 50's vibe and it reminds me of vintage pin up girls.

Hope you are having a good weekend. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

I know, cutout dresses have been in trend for a while and only now I am interested in such dresses. Maybe I need to refashion my current or old dress for upcoming fashion project.

Happy Friday! Weekend is here. Hope you have exciting plans for the weekend.

diy two-piece outfit

20 june back view
the look: altered / DIY vintage piece, lace belt, flat oxford shoes

Here, I am modelling my DIY masterpiece. Click here for tutorial. It is suitable to be worn on warm days as the material is light and there is a slight baring on the mid section. It is a cute two-piece outfit, don't you think?

fashion project: from one-piece to two-piece

I found this vintage dress in one of my unpacked boxes weeks ago. The dress was in quite good condition beside the sleeves. They were ripped from its armholes. Just when I needed to be inspired for fashion project, I came across with Blooming Leopold's sewing Saturday's entry; creating co-ord playsuit from a maxi dress. And the rest was history...

what u need

What you need:

A pair of scissors
Tailoring chalk
Tailoring ruler
Seam ripper
Elastic band
Thread (not in the above photo)
Safety pin (not in the above photo)
Sewing machine (not in the above photo)

1 remove sleeves

Remove and keep the sleeves aside.

2 separate top n skirt

Cut the dress into two parts; separating the top from the skirt.

3 mark new length

Mark new length of the top.

4 cuffs

Cut cuffs from the sleeves and remove the buttons.

5 pin armholes

Pin the allowance around the armholes into the wrong side of fabric.

6 pin bottom of top

Pin the bottom of the top.

7 sew

Sewing time. Sew the armholes and bottom of the top.

8 iron

Iron newly sewn parts.

9 add button

As the back is quite baggy, make an inverted pleated to take in some excess fabric. To decorate the pleat, add a button (optional).

10 add cuffs

Reuse the cuffs as extension of straps from the top.

12 mark new length for skirt

Now, let's work on the skirt. Cut off uneven fabric (if there is any). Mark new length for the skirt.

13 making elasticated waist

Fold about 1.5 cm to 2.0 cm of fabric at the waist part of the skirt into the wrong side of the skirt. Pin and sew around the skirt but leaving about 2.0 cm at the end.

14 thread the elastic

Measure the elastic band by stretching it on the waist of the skirt. This is for one side, remember to repeat this step again to cover the other side. Leave some allowance to sew both ends of the elastic band together. Pin a safety pin at the end of the elastic band and start threading.

15 pin hem of the skirt

Pin and sew the hem of the skirt.

Here are the finished look:

What do you think? Adorable outfit? It is a simple project but involves many steps. Hope this does not hinder anyone to give it a try. Happy sewing!
