Fashion Project: Fixing a ripped armhole

At times, some vintage dresses come in imperfect condition, for instances, missing a or several buttons, missing a hook or an eye or ripped on seams. With some knowledge in sewing, these can be fixed. And this has just extended the life of any distressed vintage dresses.

To fix any ripped armhole, turn the piece to the wrong side (the ugly side of the dress, where you can see joining of seams etc) and remove some stitches using seam ripper.

Cut out a tiny piece of interface and place it on the fraying or ripped bit. Iron that bit. I use interface as a tape to join the fraying.

Use a pin to join the sleeve to the armhole and to mark the bit to be hand sewn. Sew below the fraying bit so that it is hidden once it is turned to the right side.

Hope this is helpful or useful. Happy trying!
