the notebook

Watched 'The Notebook' a while ago and I fell in love with Allie's wardrobe. Loving almost every piece of her lovely frocks. Here are some screen shots of her much coveted wardrobe....

Don't you just love or lust over her wardrobe? I know I do. My favourite pieces are the green dress (photo one), the purple dress (photo five), the peach piece (photo six) and the black dress with white piping (photo seven).

What about you? Which is your favourite piece?

polka dots pencil skirt

30 may 1

30 may 3
the look: vintage top, thrifted skirt, thrifted belt, vintage pumps, DIY bow socks

I have been wanting to wear this adorable polka dots skirt to work but afraid it would not formal or professional enough for work. Anyway, I wore it today. It is great to add a bit of fun into work wear, don't you think?

sew and save

sew n save cover

Whilst I have loads of vintage or contemporary clothes but I have little book collection. Ashamedly, I have to admit that I am not avid reader or perhaps I have not got the right book to read. Recently I am reading Sew and Save by Joanne Chase which I picked up from a book sale last year. It has been on the shelf since then and finally I thought I should give it a go. I have enjoyed reading it so far and learning the tricks or tips of dressmaking during war time that I have not known of. Truly an enlightenment. Although I have not finished the book, I think it is a good for anyone interested in sewing or dressmaking.

Are you reading any book lately? Which book is it?

a fruitful thrifting adventure

Hope it is not too late to say "Happy Monday!". Hope you had a great weekend. After two weeks of staying in to sew or alter vintage pieces, I have decided to hit the big market in Shah Alam yesterday.

I guess with the sorting and rearranging of my wardrobe couple weeks back, I have created some space to store more 'new' vintage pieces. Knowing that space is available, I am so tempted to buy, especially when you have a thrifting companion. My thrifting companion encourages to buy more than to restrict me from buying more knowing that I have already enough of vintage pieces. But of course, if you encounter with one of a kind piece, should you let it go?

Did you go for any thrifting adventures? If so, what did you get?

Have a good week ahead!

hanky vintage dress

26 may 2

26 may 3
the look: vintage dress, lacey belt, vintage shoes

What a perfect (vintage) dress for a hot day! I have named this cute dress - hanky vintage dress. The triangular piece in the centre of the top bit of the dress reminds me of a handkerchief. Thus, that is the reason I called this dress; hanky vintage dress.

Hope you are having a lovely weekend. Stay chic and stylish!

fashion project: lace applique collar

stained collar

Accidents do happen even during laundering. In my case, somehow one of white thrifted white blouses was stained with colour on its collar. I could either dye the blouse or to fix the collar. And I chose the latter by sewing some laces on the collar - lace applique.

what u need

What you need:

Corded lace
Scissors
Thread
Needle
Nail polish (transparent)
Pins

1 cut lace
Cut out desired motives from the lace

2 apply nail polish
Apply nail polish around the cut lace to avoid fraying

3 pin cut lace
Once the pieces have dried, place and pin the pieces onto the collar

4 stitch lace
Stitch the pieces of cut lace onto the collar

back collar

I am still contemplating whether I should embellish the collar or should I leave it as it is. To me the collar or the blouse looks rather dull and the stains are not fully covered. Hhhmm...

Anyway, hope this project would help anyone who wants to cover stains on the collar or to give a fresh new look to any pieces.

Have a lovely weekend!

Lace. Sexy. Feminine. Elegant. These are some of the words that cross my mind when I think of lace attire. How would you describe lace dresses or lace pieces?

asian inspired print blazer

23 may 1

23 may 2

23 may 3
the look: vintage blazer, vintage top (altered), thrifted belt, pants, oxford heels, thrifted brooch

I am trying to keep up with my newly acquired vintage pieces. Usually, I would keep them for some time (say up to few months) before using them but now, I am trying to break this habit. And I think I did pretty well today. I was wearing the Asian inspired print blazer which I bought at KL Vintage Festival 2, couple weeks back. Keep it up girl.

chic4less has been updated

As mentioned previously, I have sorted my vintage pieces recently to make room for new vintage pieces. And I wish to find new homes for these lovely pieces. Here is a sneak peek...

w.e.

Happy Monday! How was your weekend? Great? Mine was rather quiet. I altered four vintage dresses, did some laundry and rearranged my wardrobe. It was not very easy to rearrange my wardrobe, as you know I have loads of vintage clothes. I have decided to let go some of my vintage pieces and these pieces would be put up for sale in chic4less.

After all the hard work of sewing, washing and rearranging, I chilled out for a bit by watching a movie directed by Madonna simply entitled W.E.. It is a movie about the love story of King Edward VIII with an American divorcee, Wallis Simpson and the story intertwines with a modern love story of a married woman with a foreign man. Here is the trailer...

I adore some of the dresses worn by Wallis and I managed to take some screen shots of her:

What do you think of her wardrobe? Don't you think she had lovely pieces? My favourite pieces are the striped dress (photo no 4) and dark blue evening wear (photo no 5).

Have a good and productive week ahead!

white tights

19 may 1

19 may 2
the look: vintage dress, belt, tights, oxford heels

Yet another attempt to wear tights. I think I have got the hang of wearing them. This pair of white tights is my latest addition into my tights collection, which I purchased last weekend. I was tempted to purchase green (similar to dark spring green or darthmouth green, click here to check out the colours) and grey tights. But in the end, I chose white tights. Perhaps another time for other colours.

Hope you are having a good weekend. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

on and off

16 may 1

16 may 2
yesterday's look: vintage top, vintage brooch, thrifted belt, pants, oxford flats

On and off, on and then off again. This is how I would describe my relationship with coffee. I like espresso and kopi-o (coffee without milk) but occasionally indulge in mocha, latte and cappuccino. I have been trying to count down or to stop coffee intake (due to health reasons) for almost a year now but it did not seem to work out. However my latest attempt, my last coffee based drink was at the end of April. Earlier today, I walked pass Starbucks. I miss coffee. Sigh.
