When vintage collides with punk...

I love the print of the vintage top, it is artsy. And the zips on the skirt is playful. This is my first attempt to mix vintage with punk. Punk is not particular 'me' but the skirt is punk minimal which is acceptable by me. And the outcome? Funky, don't you think?

The many faces of LBD

LDB 1

LDB 2

LBD 3

I am having so much fun styling virtually. There are loads of stuff to choose and play with in Polyvore. Little Black Dress (LBD) is one of the most must-have items. When talking about LBD, the first thing to cross my mind is Audrey Hepburn's LBD in Breakfast at Tiffany's. I love that look, it is tres chic.

Weekend is around the corner and payday too. Looking forward to the weekend and hope you are too.

Happily broke

I was 'unwell' last Sunday. My hands were itching to rummage nicely hung clothes, especially vintage clothes on racks. My feet wanted to walk around, did not want any rest. Small voices in my head told me to check out the Pink Tober charity bazaar at Solaris Dutamas. And I did.

There were a handful vintage stalls but I was lucky to come across with Faloveva Closet. Why? Because there was a great price deals! :-) Two vintage dresses at RM25 and three vintage belts at RM20. It was not just because of the cheap deal but also to contribute to charity. Killing two birds with one stone, so to speak. A good reason to be happily broke.

What do you think of my finds? Pretty neat, right? Hope everyone is having two great days so far. If not, hope you will have a good week ahead.

Pearl necklace, a brooch and a pink dress...

In conjunction with breast cancer awareness month, here is my little support towards the campaign - by wearing a pink dress. Health is one of the most important things in life. No health, no life. Therefore practise healthy lifestyle - exercise, have a balance and healthy diet, get enough rest and also de-stress when there is a need.

Have a great weekend and there would be a charity bazaar tomorrow; Pink-tober. Do check it out if you are free.

Fashion project: From 'hhmm' to 'wow'

The colour combo of the dress makes it one of a kind - black and orange gingham print. I came across black and white gingham prints loads of time but not black and orange. But, should I say that it is unfortunate that the dress comes with sleeves, which gives you the hhmm feel at first glance. I bought the dress during Vintage Packstocks clearance sale thinking that I could change from hhmm to wow. Pretty risky attempt, right?

Old fashion magazine

Photos taken from Collection Roger l'enfant chic no.54, 1973
Published by Editions Groquis Parisiens

Last Sunday, as usual, I went to flea market in search of old fashion magazines. To my disappointment, the stall which I had purchased few old fashion magazines and old dressmaking books was no longer in operation. It is a pity as I do not know where to find such magazines anymore. I love to collect old fashion magazines as reference for vintage or retro outfits/looks. For this particular magazine, I just love the illustrations. They are so pretty and cute.

In the nick of time

Weather is a strange phenomenon. When I was having lunch in a
kopitiam nearby my place, the sun was still shining brightly. In about 15 minutes later, when I have snapped at least three poses, all the sudden, the sun has been replaced with dark clouds and came windy breeze. It was going to rain any minute soon. Oh boy, I had to rush to finish my shoot for the day. By the time I got into my car, it started to drizzle and later followed by a heavy downpour... Phew, I was lucky to get things done before it rained. Well, at least it would not be so hot in the evening.

Dinner at 69

Just discovered 69 Bistro, a cool bistro, located in Metropolitan Square, Damansara Perdana. Love the interior of the bistro which is a mixture of artfully designed and modern pieces with vintage pieces. Took some photos using my mobile phone therefore the quality of the photos are so-so. Must check out the place in person. Lounge music is played as background which add chic-ness into the feel/environment of the bistro. I am pretty sure that I will return to the bistro someday.

Bonjour Paris

I think I must have watched a bit too much of French films lately, which inspired the look for today. Watched 'Le Fabuleux destin d'Amelie Poulain' for the second time after over four years last night. Prior to that, I watched 'Paris' and 'Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky'. If you are a fan of Chanel, there is another film about the designer; 'Coco avant Chanel'. It is a story about the life of Gabrielle 'Coco' Chanel before becoming one of the most influential designers.

Fashion inspiration: 1980

Photos taken from Teenager, August 1980
published by Joie Inc, Japan

Growing up in the 1980's were fun. I remembered my first Barbie doll and at that point, Barbie doll was the most 'in' and luxurious kind of toy. Thanks to my parents, who got me a Barbie doll which helped me to develop my interest in sewing and fashion. Since the dresses or clothes for Barbie dolls were expensive, I used fabric remnants to make clothes.

Another influence would be Jem, the cartoon TV series was about girl bands - Jem and the Holograms and the Misfits. The clothes were so gorgeous and the songs were nice too. From time to time, I would watch some episodes on Youtube. I hope there would be Jem the movie with real people, not animated. This would be cool.

Old postcards

A love note? Maybe, I thought to myself at the very first time when I laid my eyes on this postcard. However, I did not purchase it immediately and it took me a while to finally make it mine. Would be a very good picture once it is framed and displayed. There were few more of the same models in different poses. And all of these postcards were addressed to the same person, Paula. I wonder perhaps the female model would be Paula...

Last Sunday, I went thrifting at my usual flea market. I was not thrifting for vintage clothes but for old fashion magazines and postcards. Unfortunately there were no old fashion magazines to be seen anywhere but I found the above postcard. It is a very lovely postcard and I like the postcard instantly. It was addressed to the same person, Paula, but this one dated 1915!

I wonder with all the latest technology we have now, whether people still exchange letters and postcards the old fashioned way, snail mail. Have letters and postcards been replaced with e-mails or text messages?

Have you met Miss...?

I love the subtle ruffles on this dress. It reminded me of Victorian style. Although the colour is from a neutral palette, pair it with a pair of funky shoes to make the look more edgy.

I would like to thank readers who follow my first attempt writing travel entries, on Bandung. Hope you have enjoyed reading them as much as I have enjoyed writing them. Have a great weekend everyone.
