Ipoh Heritage Trail 1

Ipoh is the capital of Perak and it is the fourth largest city in Malaysia. Ipoh developed into one of Malaysia's main cities around the turn of the 19th century due to the booming tin mining industry.

During my recent trip back to Ipoh, I had the opportunity to go on Ipoh heritage trails. This post will focus on heritage trail 1. Here is the map which I obtained from the tourism office.

If you are planning to do the trail in the morning, I would suggest to have breakfast at any kopitiam in Panglima Street and leave your vehicle here as well. Instead of following the sequence on the map, I focused on the following streets: Panglima Street, Panglima Lane, Belfield Street, Post Office Road, Station Road and Brewster Road. Interesting buildings in these areas...

Concubine Lane (24)

Dramatists' Hostel - built in 1920s (21)

Chung Thye Phin Building - built in 1907 (12)

S.P.H. De Silva Building - built at the turn of last century (11)

Mikasa Photo Shop (20)

Jan Sahib's Office (19)

The Chartered Bank (14)

Straits Trading Building (OCBC) - built in 1907 (13)

Mercantile Bank - built in 1931 (15)

Birch Memorial (18)

Perak Hydro Building (17)

Residence & Law Office of the Seenivasagam Brothers (16)

Hongkong and Shanghai Bank - built in 1931 (10)

FMS Bar & Restaurant (9)

After exploring this part of the town, I walked back to Panglima Street to explore two building prior to driving to railway station.

Perak Ku Kong Chow Association - built in 1928 (22)

Han Chin Pet Soo (23)

This is the bit that one may consider driving instead of walking. Perhaps the weather was a bit hot at that time, thus I did not walk.

Railway station - built from 1914 to 1917 (1)

Town Hall and Post Office - built from 1914 to 1916 (3)

High Court - built from 1926 to 1928 (4)

Church of St. John the Divine - built in 1912 (6)

St. Michael's Institution (7)

Royal Ipoh Club (5)

Town Padang Mosque - built in 1908 (8)

It was a wonderful journey and all this while, I did not know the history of these buildings which I have passed by or seen some of the buildings during my teens in Ipoh. But now, after went on the trail, I have learnt a bit of these beautiful old buildings. Hope you have enjoyed this post as much as I have enjoyed walking and taking photos of these lovely old building.

Note:
At the time of walking the trail, war memorial (2) was not available to public to due some construction work.

great holiday with fabulous thrifting adventures

Hope it is not too late to wish "Kong Hei Fat Choy" or "Gong Xi Fa Chai" to those who are celebrating the festivity! I had a good break in Ipoh for Chinese New Year celebration. Besides good, yummy and cheap food in Ipoh, what I have enjoyed the most during this trip is hitting to every thrifting spots.

The year of the dragon treats me well so far. I have some luck during my thrifting adventures around Ipoh...

I purchased this adorable navy-ish hat from Pemasaran Baru Harapan / New Hope Marketing for less than RM5! Can you believe it? Good investment as props for photo shoot or just a decoration in my room, don't you think?

I heard of Gerbang Malam for the past few months but I never really actually made any effort to check it out. But during this trip, I thought, why not? Glad that I made such decision.

Great thrift and/or vintage finds at affordable price! Purchased these pieces from a bundle stall.

Salvation's Army Thrift Store is on my to-visit list. Sometimes, I may not have any luck but not for this round. I purchased a lovely purse and cute bow tie (for DIY purposes).

Do you remember the bundle store that I mentioned in my post last year? At first, all I wanted to do was to check out the stock, to see any interesting piece and never thought I would purchase an item there.

And last but not least, Memory Lane is a must-check-out place for vintage lovers. I stumbled upon this lovely beaded tapestry bag. What a lovely piece even its chain is lost. I can still use it as a clutch. I reckon the bag is from circa 1950s to 1960s.

During this trip, I took the opportunity to sight seeing in my own hometown. Went on heritage trails in Ipoh. Stay tuned for posts on heritage trails! Have a good week ahead everyone.

thrifting overhaul

Yay, yay, yay!!! I am so happy with my finds. Although I need to alter the length of the dresses and to sew missing buttons on the sweaters, these did not stop me from buying these lovely frocks and sweaters. In less than 2 hours, I have spent RM50, my monthly shopping budget.

Have you set your monthly budget already? Are you adhering to it?

a bit of colour

Perhaps it is time to add a bit (bold) colour into my outfit. This pleated turquoise skirt is just so lovely. I bought it many months ago but I have not had the chance to wear it. Today was just the day for this lovely piece. Made a tiny little effort to accessorize my outfit today as well. Not easy to search for suitable necklaces whilst some of my stuff are still packed in boxes or cases.

The look:
Vintage eyelet top
Tank top
Thrifted belt
Thrifted pleated skirt
Oxford heels
Necklaces

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

oh no! i have missed them

Oh no, I have missed purchasing these lovely vintage cards! I think these vintage cards are cute and would be a good idea to frame and hang them up in my room. But I was few days too late to buy them. Sigh. Hope I would have better luck next time.

Hope everyone will have a good weekend.

I just realised that Chinese New Year is about two weeks away. Although it is a tradition to get new year attire, I do not think I will be buying any. I was at a shopping mall to window shop and surprisingly, I was not tempted to buy anything! This is a good sign. Should keep it up...
