Whilst Hong Kong is a great shopping haven for shopaholics but what about for thriftaholics? Where can thriftaholics or vintage lovers shop? Thanks to this post 'The complete guide to vintage clothing in Hong Kong' I have found my answer. I checked out one of the places mentioned in the post during my trip.
Me and George or also known as Mee and Gee, has the similar concept to our bundle stores. Mee and Gee sells secondhand clothing, second handbags and some stores carry secondhand shoes. They market their stock as imported fashion from Japan. This is the cheapest place to shop for vintage or secondhand pieces.
Prices are as low as HK5 per piece for a piece of skirt or top. Do take note that some pieces may be stained or seams are ripped. Patience is really important to find something special or niche to bring home or perhaps just to check out the pieces in store. Whilst the prices are cheap but there is a downside - no trying of chosen outfits. One needs to find ways to measure a desired piece; either bring along measuring tape, put on body and estimate the fit etc. Other than trying issue, Mee and Gee is a great place for thriftaholics.
Here are my thrifting adventures at few Mee and Gee outlets...
Mee and Gee, 9, Li Yuen Streel West, Central, HK Island
My finds; two pieces of skirt for HK50 (about RM20.25)
Mee and Gee, near Johnston Road, Wanchai, HK Island
My find: vintage dress at HK40 (about RM16.20)
Mee and Gee, Tung Choi Street, Mongkok (there are couple of them)
My find: blouse at HK5 (about RM2.03)
Mee and Gee, Tung Choi Street, Mongkok
My find: pussy bow blouse at HK5 (about RM.2.03)
Mee and Gee, Tung Choi Street, Mongkok
My find: pleated graphic print skirt at HK5 (about RM2.03)
My thrifting adventures in different outlets of Mee and Gee was truly satisfying. Besides the great bargains, they do offer great exclusive vintage pieces at a slightly higher price from HK 60 to HK 100 (about RM24.30 to RM40.50). You can find almost everything in these stores; tops, skirts, pants, winter clothing, jeans, handbags (I saw couple of LV bags) and shoes (designer such as Prada and non-designer shoes). Do check out Mee and Gee stores when you are in Hong Kong.
For those who love great bargains, do check out Citygate Outlets in Tung Chung, Lantau Island. The mall is home to over 80 international brand names offering great bargains. Whilst I was there, Coach factory was having sale 20 % to 50 % reduction. Couples of stores I can recall are Club 21 outlet, AX outlet, Guess outlet, Mango outlet, Levi's outlet, Espirit outlet to name a few. So before hitting the airport and if you have time, do make a stop at Citygate Outlets.
This second post wrapped up entries on my recent trip to Hong Kong. Hope you have enjoyed reading my posts. It was a great trip and fun thrifting adventures. If you are planning a trip to Hong Kong, feel free to ask any questions. Will try my best to answer them.
