when in kuala lumpur; it's back to thrifiting!

In my recent trip back to Kuala Lumpur for Chinese New Year celebration, I managed to thrift. Oh boy,  I miss real thrifting so much! And I was lucky to score few items - yaaay!

The store is huge and prices are as low as RM5 (about USSD1.20 / HK$8.70) per piece! No time to loose but to starting digging...

A homemade vintage dress in an excellent condition for just RM5! It is a tad snug, so need to alter the dress. The print and colour is fabulous, a very pretty dress. So hard to leave it behind!

I think this a house dress or robe (?) but the print is beautiful. First of all, this is kind of unlike me to get this piece but I was thinking of wearing this as a jacket - will see.

Oh, this piece is from Emanuel Ungaro and it costs RM10.60 (about USD2.40 / HK$18.50)!

wanderlust: vintage hunting in shanghai

Despite of limited time, this didn't hinder me from finding and checking out any vintage stores in Shanghai. Whilst taking a stroll around the French Concession area, I came across this tiny shop; Antique Postcard Keeper. It was name of the shop that caught my eye first, then the two dresses hung at the doors. 

The lovely tiny shop is curated with many accessories; necklaces, earrings and bags, which I believe are vintage. Worth to check it out if you are in the area.

Timeout is a good resource. I read about  Anxi Clothing Market from Timeout Shanghai and decided to add it onto my to-visit list. During my visit on a Sunday morning, not many stores opened. Many stores seems like selling new goods; shoes, bags and clothes. However, there was a shop which at the first glance looks like selling used clothes. Hence I made a quick stop to rummage the clothes on the racks. And I was lucky to find two lovely dresses circa 1980s - yay!

I never thought this trip would turn out to be a fruitful one; that I managed to buy two vintage dresses (for RMB55, less than USD10!) and not forgetting gazing at the majestic view of Pudong skyline from the Bund. Oh, I wish I could have stayed longer to explore and get to know the city more. Old Shanghai, perhaps another time?

thrifting in hong kong - mee & gee

Last weekend I visited the Hong Kong Museum of History at Tsim Sha Tsui and on my way to the MTR station, I came across a Mee & Gee store.Since I have no other plans after visiting the museum, I popped into the store. No luck this time, I went home empty handed. So, if you ever happened to visit the museum or in the area, do drop by at the Mee & Gee store located at Granville Road.

alternative shopping in wanchai

The Blue House in Wanchai is one of the prominent landmark in the area. It refers to a 4-storey balcony -type tenement block located at 72 to 74A Stone Nullah Lane. This is one of the few remaining examples of Tong Lau of the balcony type in Hong Kong. If you are planning to check the Blue House, you can visit a secondhand items store (unknown name in English) and the Green Ladies.

The unknown secondhand items store. You can almost everything and anything in this place; from clothes, shoes, bags, CDs, DVDs, books, photo frames to plates, toys. Bought few books here and each book cost HK$10 each (about RM4.20 or US$1.30). Pretty cheap, right?

If you fancy designer or branded pre-loved items, after the Blue House, keep walking straight ahead until you see a red and white building with the name St. James' Settlement at the end of the road. The entrance to Green Ladies is at the ground level but clothing items, shoes and bags are located on first level.

first thrifting trip

It was sunny and cold at the same time last Saturday. Kind of a nice weather to hit the town. So I went to SA Family Store at Yau Ma Tei. My first thrifting trip for the year! The store is not too big and not too small either. As usual, you can find used clothes, shoes, bags toys, and other items in the store. Was I in luck? Neh... no luck this time. But it was ok. Luck came later though...

Can't stop once started? I think so. I bought these vintage tops just two weeks after I purchased the first two tops; black and grey tops.Click here to check these two tops. Again, these two tops are from HK$5 racks. Great bargain, right? How can anyone resist such good deal?

ben's vintage toy museum and thrift finds

I picked up Ben's Vintage Toy Museum's flyer whilst I was thrifting in Amcorp Mall weeks ago. During the recent trip to Penang, I have decided to check it out. The museum houses a large collection of toys such as robots, dolls, trains, aircrafts, guns, space toys, paddle cars and other toys. The staff was kind enough to show some good condition toys, for example the toy girl playing a music instrumental in the third photo. It works fine like it has not worn out. The toys were made in Germany, Japan, United Kingdom, the United States, Russia and other countries. Do check out this place if you love toys or vintage toys.

On another note, my holiday would not be complete without any thrifting. I was pretty lucky at SA thrift store and have scored three pieces. I think the apple green top with lace is a pyjama top. Maybe I should sew a pair of shorts to pair with the top. As for the blue top, I think it needs a bit of colours to give it a fresh look. Good idea for fashion project, no?

on my way home...

Whilst I was on my way home from a haberdashery, I passed by a pasar malam (night market) in Section 16 / 17, PJ and decided to check it out as I needed to buy some veggie or food. When I was student, I loved going to pasar malam regardless whether I had things to buy or not. I just loved looking at things; fruits, vegetables, toys, clothes, food etc.

I was so excited when I came across with this bundle stall. Without wasting any minutes and seconds, I quickly check out each rack. And three pieces of top came home with me!
