I picked up Ben's Vintage Toy Museum's flyer whilst I was thrifting in Amcorp Mall weeks ago. During the recent trip to Penang, I have decided to check it out. The museum houses a large collection of toys such as robots, dolls, trains, aircrafts, guns, space toys, paddle cars and other toys. The staff was kind enough to show some good condition toys, for example the toy girl playing a music instrumental in the third photo. It works fine like it has not worn out. The toys were made in Germany, Japan, United Kingdom, the United States, Russia and other countries. Do check out this place if you love toys or vintage toys.

Details:
Ben's Vintage Toy Museum
No. 55, Lebuh Acheh, 10200 Georgetown, Penang
Opening hours: daily including public holidays from 10 AM to 7 PM
Admissions (at the time of writing): adult RM10 per person, children 2 to 11 years old RM6 per person

blue top

On another note, my holiday would not be complete without any thrifting. I was pretty lucky at SA thrift store and have scored three pieces. I think the apple green top with lace is a pyjama top. Maybe I should sew a pair of shorts to pair with the top. As for the blue top, I think it needs a bit of colours to give it a fresh look. Good idea for fashion project, no?

on my way home...

Whilst I was on my way home from a haberdashery, I passed by a pasar malam (night market) in Section 16 / 17, PJ and decided to check it out as I needed to buy some veggie or food. When I was student, I loved going to pasar malam regardless whether I had things to buy or not. I just loved looking at things; fruits, vegetables, toys, clothes, food etc.

cold drinks - coconut, yam and honeydew

bundle stall

I was so excited when I came across with this bundle stall. Without wasting any minutes and seconds, I quickly check out each rack. And three pieces of top came home with me!

What a great way to start the week, don't you think? How is your day or week so far?

newly acquired

mod dress

sunglasses

Although I need to save up, I just could not resist (how typical of me when thrifting at flea market) to bring this lovely vintage mod like dress (or school uniform?) home. It is very one of a kind dress and I do not have such dress in my wardrobe. As for the red sunglasses, it is a great addition to put together for vintage look. Furthermore, this pair of sunglasses was on sale. Rayban red sunglasses crossed my mind when I saw this pair! Well, at least this pair is within my budget.

Have a good week ahead!

thrifted finds

find 1

find 2

Hello everyone! Hope you are well and had a great weekend. Mine was good as I have altered some of my vintage dresses. So, more options to choose for outfit posts. Yay!

Oh boy, I am so tired! Why? Because I went on a DIY KL heritage trail this morning. But today's post is on my finds, will share the trail soon. In between all the walking and snapping photos, I went to a bundle store in Kota Raya for a sort of break and to get away from the heat. Lace collar - checked, polka dots - checked, within my budget - checked and that is how the top ended into my bag (of course need to check out at the cashier before going home). Whilst the trench coat is an investment piece for any future trips. Indeed a lucky find for me!

Have a good week ahead and stay stylish!

rm5 finds

Hope everyone had a great weekend. I can not believe that two months to go before 2011 ends. What a year! But before I go into details on 2011's journey, here I would like to share my purchases this month.

Besides 'one in, one out' rule, I have set that if any piece that requires any alteration, I would not purchase it. As for the price, not more than RM10. If it is way than RM10, surely that piece is an one of kind. Simple, straight forward and easy to follow.

So, back to my purchases...

Pleated skirt from a bundle shop in Ipoh, RM5

Knit sleeveless cardigan from Amcorp Mall, RM5

Beret from TPM, Shah Alam, RM5

Finding great stuff at very affordable price is the reason I love thrifting so much! Thrifting rules!

Have a good week ahead!

interesting finds

Salvation's Army thrift store is always on my to-go list every time I return to my hometown. At times, I would be lucky and could find things that I would like to get and then, there would be times, that I would not be so lucky.

Well, I am not too sure whether this time, I am lucky or not lucky. Purchased two items from the store; crochet shawl and tiffin carrier.

In time to ensemble fall look, good timing?

Nice display item

Have a good weekend!

finds

My finds during SPCA Jumbo Sale yesterday were a book and a small velvet bag. I have not started to read the book yet but it looks interesting to me. A sneak peek of the book; it talks about the power of fashion, communicating with colour, fashion seductions, the masculine mystique: women in men's clothes to name a few chapters.

I bought a beaded clutch from Amcorp Mall flea market yesterday. No luck with vintage clothes but I was lucky to came across this lovely clutch. So pretty and classic. A great addition into my collection of bags!

Have a great week ahead!

latest additions

1970s dress

vintage or retro dress?

Bought these lovely dresses during my recent trip to my favourite flea market. The 70s dress was found on offer rack whilst the other piece was found on normal price rack. I am facing a tiny problem to date the other piece. It has the 1960s look but some elements which are difficult to see from photo, which made me think it is a retro piece. As for the sizing, I usually wear small size but I could fit medium size for this piece. Hhmm... Perhaps it is a vintage dress. Any thoughts, anyone?

Have a good week ahead!

It was thrifting after all...

Remember the window thrifting that I mentioned two Sundays ago? Well, it did not really turn out to be window thrifting after all. I bought these:

1980's striped top

1970's 8-piece skirt

1980's dress

Although I did not buy a lot, I think I was quite lucky with these finds. Love them - cute top, pretty skirt and lovely dress. What else could I ask for more (at this point)?

Stayed tune for tomorrow's thrift finds post to check out what I bought during my recent trip back to Ipoh. Have a great week ahead everyone!

Skirt affairs

In the past two weeks, I bought all these skirts in two separate occasions but from the same seller. They are just so lovely and as usual, how can I resist them especially when they are so affordable? I am in the phase of obsessing with pleated and full skirts. Is this just a phase or ...? Anyway, have you ever in been in any phase of obsessing with something?

I came, I saw, I took

Few more photos of the set up for the private yard sale - pre loved items. It was fun setting up the room with my sis and whilst we were sorting out things, I claimed these few items mine from her wardrobe. The tapestry bag is indeed a great addition to my wardrobe.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Thrifting gone overboard

Did not know why my last Sunday's thrifting went overboard. Impulse? All I knew was that these are great finds at great deals, below RM10 for each piece. Very, very hard to resist. Two or three of the dresses need alteration for fresher look.

Bought the hair clips, comb (for fashion projects) and retro coin pouch from a charity stall. The beaded retro coin pouch is very cute. The white blouse has the modern look, very suitable as sophisticated office wear.

Could not believe that I could come across with Bally shoes at the flea market! I am not sure how to date the shoes but this is what I want, almost what I want actually. Ferragamo is out of my budget but this pair, due to its condition (needs to be cleaned or polished), is still within my budget.

I am broke. But happily broke.

Have a good week ahead everyone!

Yet another great finds

I consider myself lucky because I wanted to get a woven bag either wicker or raffia bag. And I found one in the Salvation Army's thrift store last Saturday! Same goes for the clutch. I wanted a tapestry clutch and this velvety fabric clutch is almost a dream come true. But I will keep my eyes open for a tapestry clutch or bag.

A cute find is the handbags print blouse. It is big for me and it needs a bit of alteration. The salmon pink blouse is simple yet adorable. Love the buttons feature.

Purchased cute preppy sweater like top, Victorian inspired top and a striped skort or culottes. The pair of culottes is something new for me to add into my wardrobe. Don't you just love the stripes?

Can not wait for next month's trip back to Ipoh!

Fruitful Sunday

Hope you had a great weekend. Mine was good. Did most of the house chores that I wanted to do. Somehow there was an activity managed to sneak onto my to-do-list. And this activity was thrifting.

It has been a while since my last visit to my favourite flea market. Well, it was approximately 30 days. Every time I go there, nine of ten visits, I would not return home empty handed. This visit was no exception at all.

One of my favourite finds is the sailor top inspired dress. I intend to alter the dress to give it a fresh look. The ghostbusters t-shirt was calling me to take it home. And I did. The other blue top I am not sure if it is a kebaya top or just a blouse - hhmm... anyone knows?

Hope you will have a good week ahead. I am looking forward to Easter break. Three more days to go :-)

An almost shopping spree Sunday

It was truly an almost shopping spree last Sunday. Still had to look after my wallet or piggy bank though. Had to control myself. First stop was Kutu Market at Bistro 69, Metropolitan Square. If I am not mistaken, I think there were two vintage stalls, which I bought these items:

I know, I know, I bought a similar sailor top last month, with white stripes. I love sailor top and here is a little secret, I like man in uniform especially in navy uniform or sailor uniform :-) Perhaps this is the reason why I love sailor top so much...

After that, I went home to continue doing my house chores (most probably the most boring chores- ironing clothes, cleaning etc). Lah' Lah' Land: Flea What? fashion bazaar was on my to-go-flea market for the day. Somehow, my phone went kaput after dropping it (ouch....). Well, not totally kaput but somehow it is not the same as before. Took few photos of the bazaar but I could not locate them inside my phone. Sigh.

Anyway, it was good to catch up a bit with Ana and Tirah. Oh, I bought a vintage blazer from anaabu at a good deal - 50% of the price. Ana had a price slash on that day and it would be a shame for those who have missed this.

On another note, remember I mentioned about my pre-loved clothes? Well, I hope I was able to thank the buyers personally on that day but unfortunately I could not. Thanks to Ana for your kind assistance too. Thanks again!

Hope everyone will have a very good week ahead!
