wanderlust: used clothing stores in harajuku, tokyo

ragtag

Ragtag is a secondhand designer clothing chain store. The store carries famous designer brands such as Alexander Mcqueen,Chloe, Christian Louboutin, Christian Dior, Chanel, Givenchy, Marc by Marc Jacobs to name a few catering for women, men and kids as well. According to its website, there are seven Ragtag stores around Tokyo and one rt in Ginza. During my trip, I visited the store in Harajuku. Whilst I did not notice anything vintage but on the website it stated there is a vintage section. My guess is perhaps vintage can be found in other stores?

I am saving the best (in my humble opinion) for the last - Kinji Used Clothing store. Firstly the store itself is huge. The third photo shows the first half of the store. I felt I was in the heaven of secondhand clothing. And secondly you can find vintage here, yay! Lastly, the price is very reasonable. There is a section selling used designer items; clothes, bags and shoes. I had fun rummaging each rack trying to look for 'treasures' to bring back home. I found couple of treasures for the price of JPY3024 (approximately US$27).

I think this striped vintage dress is circa 1970/80s.

going green with the green ladies

About two years ago, I posted an entry on Green Ladies (click here to read the post). Early this year, I visited Green Ladies store in Sai Ying Pun. I came across this store by accident when visiting a friend who lives in that area. What a pleasant coincidence!

Initially, my visit to the store was to check it out and with no intention of buying anything. Well, as I browsed through the clothes, few of the items caught my attention. Next thing I knew, I was heading into the fitting room to try them on! And the rest, I don't think I need to mention it here...What did I pick?

And what went home with me? Just the jacket and the little black dress. I was not able to fit into Karen Millen's dress. I was contemplating of getting this Kate Spade bag but in the end I did not.

Overall this store is slightly bigger than the one in St. James' Settlement. Bigger store, more merchandise. Although vintage are hard to come by but for now, I settle for  pre-loved. Staff is helpful and friendly as well. Definitely would visit this store again.

alternative shopping in wanchai

blue house 1

The Blue House in Wanchai is one of the prominent landmark in the area. It refers to a 4-storey balcony -type tenement block located at 72 to 74A Stone Nullah Lane. This is one of the few remaining examples of Tong Lau of the balcony type in Hong Kong. If you are planning to check the Blue House, you can visit a secondhand items store (unknown name in English) and the Green Ladies.

The unknown secondhand items store. You can almost everything and anything in this place; from clothes, shoes, bags, CDs, DVDs, books, photo frames to plates, toys. Bought few books here and each book cost HK$10 each (about RM4.20 or US$1.30). Pretty cheap, right?

If you fancy designer or branded pre-loved items, after the Blue House, keep walking straight ahead until you see a red and white building with the name St. James' Settlement at the end of the road. The entrance to Green Ladies is at the ground level but clothing items, shoes and bags are located on first level.
