yet another vintage top for work

the look: vintage top, thrifted belt, skirt, pump heels

Yet another vintage top for work. Another simple and minimalist look. What I like about this outfit is the colour combination - brown with blue. One funny thing happened during the photo shoot was one of the buttons on the skirt dropped. If you looked at the second photo closely, you can see there is spot of missing button.

vintage top for work

the look: vintage top, pants, heels

At the moment, most of my outfits are pretty simple, clean and minimalist. Vintage is not widely accepted here, if I may say so. Why? Because most Hong Kong people do not like secondhand or used items. They like to follow trends and buy new items. However there is a small group people such as designers, stylists and people who lived abroad appreciate vintage. Thus I have to tone down my vintage dressing a little, for a while I hope.

drooling over these outfits...

Happy Monday everyone! Hope you had a lovely weekend. Here is a quick post on The Devil Wears Prada, Andy's wardrobe. Last Friday, I watched the movie on television for second time.I know, the movie is old, about 6 years old, but the outfits are so-to-die-for. Well, at least in my humble opinion. I love every Chanel pieces on Andy. So chic and stylish.

Regardless how old these outfits are, I still drool over them. My favourite outfit is a black off shoulder top layered on a white shirt and accessorized with Chanel necklace and newspaper boy cap. So stylish!

Hope this outfit helps to chase the Monday blues away. Have a good week ahead!

sham shui po revisited

I revisited Sham Shui Po area in search of fabrics, sewing items and sewing machine. Thanks to my friend, she sent me a link of a blog entry about sewing material in Hong Kong, which is very useful. Click here to check out the entry. After reading that post, I have decided to explore Sham Shui Po area again. I walked from Cheung Sha Wan road to Nam Cheong street, Yu Chau street, Wong Chuk street, Apliu Street to name some streets that I can remember.

Sewing machines

This is quite a fruitful trip. I came across many fabrics shops, haberdashery and not forgetting two shops selling sewing machines. Now I have a rough idea of how much a sewing machine would cost. The most basic Brother sewing machine (XL-5050) costs HK$2000. This sewing machines come with 26 stitch functions. Another interesting model is Innov-is 30 which has 70 stitches, selling at HK$4500. Hhmm... I think I would need to look for Singer sewing machines or shop around before deciding.

Made some purchases during this trip. Two purchases for a DIY project and another one for mending clothes. I know this would not be the last trip there and looking forward for many visits there once I have purchased a sewing machine.

Hong Kong: a shopping heaven

Hong Kong is indeed a shopping heaven for shopaholics. A good place for retail therapy and window shopping too. It offers different kinds of shopping, Here is a sneak peek of what Hong Kong can offers...

For those who have expensive taste...

For high street fashion lovers...

For fashionistas on a shoestring budget...

kwai chung plaza

Kwai Chung Plaza is a shopping mall with many little shops selling many different kinds of items, from clothes to shoes, to electrical goods to stationery and household items. It is quite similar to Sungei Wang Plaza in Kuala Lumpur. The fashion of the clothes and shoes are similar to Korean or Japanese fashion; very trendy and funky.

And there is something for thriftaholics and vintage lovers too. All you need to do is a little search and find your way to get there. It is not as easy as locating shopping malls. So far, I have came across with two Mee and Gee shops by chance. There are few SA family stores but at the moment, I have been one SA family store in Tsim Sha Tsui area.

Lastly for those who loves to shop and haggle (perhaps?)...

sham shui po market

What do you think? A great shopping heaven for all types of shoppers. Frankly speaking, I have yet to purchase anything for myself or to indulge beside shopping for my place - household items and of course, groceries for survival. Can't wait till I have fully settled down and to explore the shopping scene here...

ideas for (tiny) home

Living in a tiny little place is quite challenging and I am adapting to it pretty well, so far. In this post, I would like to share some cheap finds at IKEA that I find, I can use them in another way which they are initially intended for.

Candle holder (HK$9.90 - offer price) is used as potpourri holder in my bathroom

floor mat
Due to limited space, I use guest towel (HK$3.90) as floor mat outside my bathroom

Utensil tray (HK$19.90) as my accessories tray

At the time of writing, I have yet to tackle the 'issue' with my clothes. Sigh. So many pretty clothes, so limited space. Think, think...

On another note, do you have any tips to share? Feel free to do so!

new found hobby

books

Once a friend of mine told that me one tends to read more when he/she is away from home. At first I have doubt with her statement because on holidays, I brought a book to read or intend to read but in the end the book was untouched at all. However, I think there is a truth in her statement. When I am away from the blogging world now, I read. At the moment, I am on the second book; Tales of passion, Tales of woe by Sandra Gulland. My first book was The other Boleyn girl and I have finished it within 10 days. Based on my own reading record, I am a slowly reader. I took weeks or months to finish a book particularly a very thick book. That was consider fast.

Anyway, I purchased second hand books instead of brand new books. And I picked them up from Flow Books in Central. It is relatively small store packed with books of all genres, from travels to chic lit to cookbooks. During my first visit, I came across a coffee table book on Audrey Hepburn. I almost wanted to buy it but realizing that I might know have the space to keep the book, I put it back on the shelf...

Have you read any interesting books lately?

decorating my tiny place

When it comes decorating your place, if it is a rented place, you will have limitations in someways. Some landlords would forbid drilling on walls etc. And if it a furnished rented place, you have to accept the furniture that comes with place.

How do you personalized your place? Here is what I did for my place...

cards
Stick cards on cabinets (instead of wall) using blu tack like adhesive. Purchased vintage like cards from IKEA for HK$10 for a set of 5 pieces.

note on wall

Use bamboo clothes peg as note holder. Stick the peg and pencil on the wall using blu tack adhesive.

new addition at home

Last weekend, I bought a flower plant from Flower Market. What do you think?

How do you decorate your place? What inspires you? Feel free to share your ideas.

Have a lovely weekend!

drooling over chanel brooch

Don't you think this is a lovely brooch? I can't stop checking the brooch out; almost every night, after work I would log on onto Malleries to take a look at it. This brooch is from 1994 collection. Sigh... if only I have enough money to indulge myself at the moment.

a happy discovery - sham shui po

haberdashery shops

beads

chains

feathers

riboons

It has been (slightly over) a month that I have been living in Hong Kong. I have been out and about most weekends discovering and exploring this metropolitan city. I am so glad to discover Sham Shui Po - a place to look for textile and craft items. Too bad I did not pack and move my sewing machine but I have been toying with the idea of buying one. An electric portable sewing machine. A little one for easy storage.

My shipment arrived couple last week and guess what? I have too many dresses (mostly vintage dresses) to be kept in the cabinet. Now, I am scratching head, figuring how to store these pieces. It would be challenging but I think I will find a way soon....
